For more than a decade, Yoshi Yubai has worked between the streets of Japan and the United States, using photography as raw material rather than documentary record. Through layering, repetition and degradation, reflections, architecture, signage and passing figures dissolve into unstable images that resist resolution, occupying the space between recognition and abstraction.

Conceived as an artist's book rather than a conventional photobook, Discommunication is printed at A3 scale on mirror-finished silver stock and spiral-bound, transforming the publication into a physical object. The reflective surface becomes inseparable from the work itself, shifting with light and movement to create a continually changing viewing experience.

Published by Landslide Books and featuring an essay by Marc Weidenbaum, Discommunication brings together a new body of work that challenges the conventions of photography as much as it embraces them.
