Published by Xaravel in Tokyo in 1974, Tadanori Yokoo's Posters is one of the earliest monographs dedicated to the artist's extraordinary graphic practice. Bringing together over one hundred posters from the previous decade, the publication captures Yokoo at the moment his work was reshaping the visual language of post-war Japan and attracting international attention.
Rejecting the restraint of modernist design, Yokoo embraced visual excess. Drawing freely from Japanese history, American Pop, psychedelia, advertising, religion and political imagery, his posters collapse the boundaries between commercial design and fine art. Richly reproduced throughout, the volume reveals the remarkable breadth of Yokoo's practice during one of the most inventive periods of his career.
Published as Yokoo's international reputation was rapidly expanding, Tadanori Yokoo's Posters remains one of the earliest and most comprehensive surveys of his graphic work.
