Published by Editrice L’Ufficio Moderno in 1972, Pubblicità in Italia 1971–1972 is a substantial survey of Italian advertising and graphic design at the beginning of the 1970s. The volume brings together hundreds of examples of advertising, commercial photography, typography, packaging, corporate identity and graphic design from across Italy.
The book documents the visual language of Italian commercial culture during a particularly inventive period, with work for companies including Olivetti, Kartell, Siemens, Zucchi, Amaro Averna, San Pellegrino and numerous other Italian manufacturers and brands. Advertising campaigns are presented alongside examples of logos, packaging and graphic systems, providing an unusually broad picture of contemporary Italian design.
With its striking combination of photography, typography and graphic experimentation, the publication is an excellent reference for the history of Italian advertising and graphic design, and a particularly rich document of the visual culture of the early 1970s.
