The sixth volume in Gerd Hatje’s influential New Furniture series, published in 1962, surveys contemporary international furniture design through 318 black-and-white photographs. The volume documents furniture from sixteen countries, covering chairs, sofas, beds, tables, cabinets, shelves, office furniture and nursery furniture.

The book brings together an impressive range of postwar designers and manufacturers, including Knoll, Saarinen, Gio Ponti, Jens Risom and Edward Wormley. Furniture is presented systematically through photographic plates accompanied by concise descriptions, with an index of designers, manufacturers and photographers.

Published in English, German, French and Spanish, New Furniture 6 is an excellent period document of the rapidly developing language of modern furniture in the early 1960s.
