Originally published in 1935, Aircraft is one of Le Corbusier’s most unusual and visually radical books. Developed from his fascination with aviation and the new perspective it offered over cities and landscapes, the book brings together 124 photographs selected and arranged by Le Corbusier across a series of illustrated arguments on flight, technology, the city and the modern world. Its experimental typography and image sequencing turn the book itself into a kind of visual lecture, anticipating the graphic language of later photobooks and artist’s books. This bilingual edition reproduces the original English edition while adding French translations of Le Corbusier’s texts, reconstructed from the archives of the Fondation Le Corbusier, with a postface by Philippe Duboÿ.
