In 1951, Ellsworth Kelly submitted a series of drawings and collages for a book to be entitled Line, Form and Color, for a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship. The application was unsuccessful, and the studies were not shown until 1996, in the exhibition Ellsworth Kelly: A Retrospective, at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. With this present volume, Kelly realized his original project, published as part of the exhibition and designed with Takaaki Matsumoto.
The boxed set includes also a 26p essay in german by Harry Cooper, Intense Independence - Line Form Color by Ellsworth Kelly.
