Originally published in 2017 in a highly sought-after limited edition, Naomi was reissued by Akio Nagasawa Publishing in 2021, preserving the intimate, tactile qualities of the original. The book brings together Moriyama's photographs inspired by Jun'ichirō Tanizaki's 1924 novel Naomi (Chijin no Ai), a seminal work exploring modernity, desire, obsession and the changing role of women in Taishō-era Japan.

Rather than illustrating the novel directly, Moriyama responds to its atmosphere through a sequence of grainy black-and-white photographs that blur fiction and reality. His signature high-contrast aesthetic transforms Tokyo into a landscape of fleeting encounters, anonymous bodies and fragmented desire, echoing the novel's psychological intensity while remaining unmistakably his own.
