Published by Akio Nagasawa in 2023, Tokyo presents a previously unseen body of photographs made by Daido Moriyama in 1992. Bound in a silkscreen-printed canvas cover, the volume brings together seventy-eight images that remained unpublished for more than three decades before appearing here for the first time.

Photographed during a period of personal and professional transition, the work captures Moriyama roaming the streets of Shinjuku, Shibuya and Ikebukuro with an instinctive urgency. Grainy, high-contrast views of alleyways, signage, passers-by and fleeting moments coalesce into a portrait of Tokyo that is both restless and deeply intimate, revealing the city through movement, memory and chance rather than documentation.

The book concludes with an afterword by Moriyama reflecting on the circumstances in which the photographs were made and on his enduring compulsion to walk the streets with a camera. More than thirty years after these images were taken, Tokyo offers a rare glimpse into an unseen chapter of one of photography's most influential bodies of work.
