Imitations, 1995
Hardcover, unpaginated (52 pages)
27.3 x 21.6 cm
Taka Ishii Gallery, Tokyo
An out of print photobook from the legendary Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama, published in a limited edition of only 500 numbered copies. Imitations was released in conjunction with Moriyama's 1995 exhibition at Taka Ishii Gallery in Tokyo, capturing the photographer's inimitable juxtapositions of form—human and otherwise—through his signature high-contrast black and white aesthetic. Unpaginated with 43 black and white plates finely printed on coated paper. Includes exhibition history and bibliography in Japanese and English. Published before the international photobook boom of the 2000s, this mid-1990s classic represents Moriyama at the height of his powers, documenting Tokyo's urban landscape with his characteristic grainy, blurred, rough-edged style. Issued with plain glassine dust jacket.
