Punk Magazine

Punk is a fanzine founded in 1975 by cartoonist John Holmstrom, publisher Ged Dunn and journalist Legs McNeil. It is the first publication to have popularized the CBGB music scene and, above all, its use of the term “punk rock”, coined by collaborators of Creem magazine a few years earlier, led to the generalization of the expression in world level to qualify all new groups producing music inspired by the Stooges, New York Dolls, MC5 and Ramones.

Written entirely in hand lettered interior texts, Issue 14 of 1978 features Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious puppets on the cover with AC/DC, Puppets by Rosanne Lasagna, and photograph by Roberta Bayley.

One of the emblematic magazines of this period with an extraordinary layout.

In 1976, New York was home to a booming counter-culture – and one magazine, Punk, was there to chronicle it all.
